Eagles Abound

April, 2010

We took a trip to Wabasha WI to the National Eagle Center on April 10. An energetic naturalist provided his audience with many insights into the amazing recovery of eagles in the United States. The national bird has gone from near extinction in the 1960s—largely because of the widespread use of DDT, which was banned in 1973— to removal from the endangered species list in 2007. From a low of 400 breeding pairs in the lower 48 in 1963, the population has increased to nearly 10,000 pairs.

Bowling with International Students

March 2010

On Sunday, March 7, we celebrated the fourth anniversary of our annual international bowling event. In keeping with the theme of traveling without leaving home, we had the opportunity to get acquainted with this year’s exchange students from Armstrong High School. No passport required to meet a charming group of students from Brazil, Germany, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Mexico, Slovakia and Japan.

The afternoon featured bowling and pizza eating. You say, you don’t care to bowl? No problem. You can still meet these friendly, outgoing students and learn about their experiences here in Minnesota and about their homelands.

We met at 2 p.m. at New Hope Bowl, 7107 42nd Avenue North in New Hope. Coordinator: Don Wolter
